  71.           This software is provided as Shareware.  This means you have the
  72.           opportunity to try it before you buy it. If you continue to  use

  192.           The next two sections cover  both necessary and optional  equip-
  193.           ment supported by Beam Cookbook.

  197.           Here's what you need to run Beam Cookbook:

  199.               # Computer.  Beam Cookbook runs  on a IBM XT, AT, PS/2,  and
  200.                 fully compatible computers.

  202.               # Operating system.  DOS 3.0 or higher.

  204.               # Memory. To run Beam Cookbook,  you need at least 512K  (or
  205.                 524,288 bytes) of available random-access memory(RAM).

  207.               # Disk drive.   Your computer  must have hard  disk with  at
  208.                 least 1 MB of space required.

  212.           You don't need the following equipment, but each enhances Beam
  213.           Cookbook's performance:

  218.                 card and a monitor capable of high-resolution graphics (a
  219.                 color monitor is not necessary).  However, you can print
  220.                 the graphics without a graphics card.

  247.               # Math  coprocessor.   Beam Cookbook  automatically  detects
  248.                 and uses any math coprocessor installed on your computer.

  250.               # Expanded memory card.  You  can add expanded memory  cards
  251.                 to your  computer  to  increase  the  performance  of  in-
  252.                 put/output windows and  printing.  Requires  a minimum  of
  253.                 260k.  Beam Cookbook works with any LIM 4.0 card.

  255.       INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  256.  
  257.       If you downloaded BEAM COOKBOOK from a BBS (or received it in
  258.       the form of archive files from some other source), you will need
  259.       to perform the following steps.
  260.  
  261.       o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  262.          directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  263.          varies, depending on the form in which you received the
  264.          package.  In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading
  265.          this text means that you already have the necessary tools
  266.          and knowledge to perform this step.  If not, you should be
  267.          able to obtain directions for this from the same source
  268.          from which you received the package.
  269.  
  270.           o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.
  271.              For example, if the temporary directory into which you have
  272.              extracted the BEAM COOKBOOK package is C:\TEMP, you would
  273.              execute the MS-DOS command, "c:\temp\install".
  274.  
  275.           o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation
  276.              program.  You will have a chance to approve installation
  277.              before any changes are actually made to the contents of
  278.              your hard drive.  The program will ask you for a
  279.              destination directory, and will copy the BEAM COOKBOOK
  280.              files to that directory.  The installation program will
  281.              copy the executable programs, documentation, and samples
  282.              (optional) in the directory of your choice.  It will make
  283.              no other changes; specifically, it will not modify your
  284.              autoexec.bat or config.sys files.
  285.  
  286.           When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you
  287.           should delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed
  288.           BEAM COOKBOOK (C:\TEMP, in the above discussion), including all
  289.           its contents.
